Chennai Super Kings have won their first game of the tournament and will be in great spirits as they take on the Rajasthan Royals. The Royals also come into this match with a win in their previous match but that was a close encounter against Delhi. There is a lot of scope for improvement for Rajasthan still. These two teams have often played some really exciting contests against each other and we hope to see another one this time around. The match is going to be played in Mumbai where the matches have been a bit low-scoring in the last few matches.
Chennai Super Kings vs Rajasthan Royals, IPL 2021
Teams’ strengths & weaknesses
CSK started brilliantly with the ball in the previous match and that is their biggest strength. The team has a very strong bowling attack especially now that their new-ball bowlers are in good form. The spinners have already been the strength for CSK in seasons past. The weakness remains the ability to smash run in the end overs as Chennai does not have the big-hitters that some of the other teams do.
Rajasthan Royals has an excellent top-order that can take the game away. That is clearly its biggest strength and where Rajasthan will be trying to win the match. The day that the Royals get going, they almost always end up with a huge score. The weakness is the lack of depth in the batting and the poor bowling attack that can be taken for some runs on a day off.
Players in form
Deepak Chahar had an excellent game in the previous outing and took his best ever IPL figures. He has to be the player in form for CSK alongside Ravindra Jadeja who makes a contribution in every aspect of the game he can. The ability to take early wickets is what CSK is going to focus on and that is where Deepak Chahar will be crucial. Suresh Rain is in good form with the bat.
Sanju Samson made a brilliant century in the opening match of the season and has to be the player in form. Chris Morris also showed what he is capable of in the previous match. David Miller has had a quite few IPL seasons but he is in good form as well. The batting is where Rajasthan Royals can really dominate this match.
The conditions for this match are expected to be batsmen-friendly in Wankhede although the last few matches have not been like that. A little bit of extra grass on the surface has made it difficult for the batsmen to be able to score as freely as you would imagine.
- Rajasthan won both its matches against Chennai in 2019 in conditions that were high-scoring
- Suresh Raina has scored 638 runs in matches between these two IPL teams
- Dwayne Bravo has 15 wickets, the most for any bowler in matches between these two teams
The match is being held in Mumbai and we think that is a big advantage for Rajasthan Royals. They have been very successful against Mumbai in the past and are the only team to have won more matches than it has lost against it. We think the likelihood of Rajasthan getting the better of Chennai because of its stronger batting lineup is quite good. The form of Sanju Samson and David Miller is excellent while Jos Buttler has yet to show what he is capable of.
This makes Rajasthan Royals the team likely to win this match. Chennai's lack of power in the beating department could cost it heavily.
Winner: Rajasthan Royals (1.95)
