How can West Indies overcome missing out on ODI World Cup 2023?

The West Indies cricket team has been one of the most successful teams in the history of international cricket. They have won the Cricket World Cup twice (1975 and 1979), the ICC T20 World Cup twice (2012 and 2016), the ICC Champions Trophy once (2004), the ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup once (2016), and have also finished as runners-up in the Cricket World Cup (1983), the Under 19 Cricket World Cup (2004), and the ICC Champions Trophy (2006).

However, it is unbelievable that West Indies, one of the most dominating teams at one point in international cricket, will be missing out on the upcoming ODI World Cup which is scheduled to take place in India.

Since the retirement of some legendary players from the West Indies, the combination of new players has suffered consecutively to make an impact in international cricket.

In the ongoing ICC ODI World Cup Qualifiers Tournament, West Indies suffered an embarrassing loss by 7 wickets against Scotland – A team that is relatively new to the international cricket circuit. The top bookmakers in India have released outright odds for ODI World Cup in advance.

The world of International cricket is in shock and everyone who has been a fan of West Indies cricket is disappointed to see the decline of the team. The West Indies cricket team has had a significant impact on the development of international cricket. They have helped to popularize the game around the world, and they have inspired generations of cricketers.

The West Indies are a team with a rich history and they were expected to be a huge force to inspire the young generation but things have not gone as expected and planned.

The biggest question in front of the team management is what is the next step for the Jamaicans to forget the pain of missing out on the most popular tournament in the world.

Defeat India in the Test and ODI Format

The rivalry between India and the West Indies in cricket has spanned several decades and has produced some memorable contests. While the intensity of the rivalry may have diminished somewhat in recent years, it still holds significance in the cricketing world. Team India will be touring West Indies for a two-match Test series and three-match ODI series.

After losing out on an opportunity to perform in the ODI World Cup, West Indies should make sure that team India should not dominate the hosts in the upcoming fixtures.

It is very important to regain the lost confidence and defeating India will be a huge way to bounce back in international cricket. The series is scheduled to begin on 12th July with the first Test between the two teams.

Dominate the New Cycle of WTC

With the beginning of the Ashes, the new cycle of the World Test Championship has begun and it is a golden chance for West Indies cricket to focus on the longest format of the game. They won’t be part of the ODI World Cup and hence the pressure of performing in the white-ball is reduced.

The team management should hire the services of players who are skilled in the red-ball format and reach the top of the WTC Point Table.

During the last cycle of WTC, West Indies finished 8th in the point table with only 4 wins. However, the team has gone through some major changes in recent times and it is still in the process of revival.

While on an international break during the ODI World Cup, West Indies can think of a plan to reach the top of their form in Test cricket.
