India and Sri Lanka will go face-to-face in the three-match T20I series starting January 3rd at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai as all eyes will be on Team India's leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal.
The leggie is on the cusp of creating history as he just needs four more wickets to become India's highest wicket-taking bowler in the shortest format of the game.
Currently, Chahal is four short off pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar who has 90 wickets to his name. Meanwhile, the Rajasthan Royals spinner has 87 scalps to his name in his T20I career.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar is not part of India's T20I squad against Sri Lanka which means the 32-year-old spinner has a genuine chance of overtaking him. You can find the best bookmakers in India here.
Another milestone awaits the bowler from Haryana, as he is just five wickets short from joining the unique group of bowlers who have 50 scalps or more at home in T20Is. Currently, he has 45 wickets to his name on home soil.
Team India will face Sri Lanka in three-match T20I series
Team India will kick off their new year against Lanka with the three-match T20I series before the ODI series. The last time India faced Lanka at home – they won the T20I series 3-0.
However, Lanka got their revenge against India as they beat them in Asia Cup to knock them out last year. Eventually, Lanka went on to beat Pakistan in the final to lift the trophy.
Skipper Rohit Sharma will not be part of the shortest format as he has still not recovered from the thumb injury he sustained against Bangladesh last year.
Virat Kohli and KL Rahul are also not part of the T20I series as both have been given rest by the selectors ahead of the One-day international series.
