IPL 2023 Auction: Top five steals from the event

IPL 2023: The auction for the Indian Premier League has come to an end and the 2023 season of the tournament will see major changes in all the squads. All the franchises have participated in the auction actively and some records have been made during the auction.

Sam Curran turned out to be the costliest player of the auction and he became the costliest player in the history of the tournament.

Harry Brook, Nicholas Pooran, Ben Stokes, and Cameroon Green also registered themselves as the top deals and now it is time for all these players to prove their worth for their respective franchises.

5 players who were sold at a comparatively low price

Few players in the tournament turned out to be a lucrative deal in the tournament. Here is the list of five such players who were sold at a low price but might give a good return to the franchise.

1) Kane Williamson – 2 Crore – Gujarat Titans

The former skipper of Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kane Williamson was sold to the defending champion for his base price of 2 Crore and this will prove to be a good deal for the franchise. Kane is known for his accolades in the tournament but it was just because of his below-average performance in the last season with Hyderabad, the franchise chose to part ways with the player.

Williamson’s presence will be a huge push to the Titan’s opening batting order and specifically at number 3. Kane Williamson has shown a lower strike rate in 2022 but he is a talented player and will surely make a comeback in IPL 2023.

2) Litton Das – 50 Lakh – Kolkata Knight Riders

The year 2022 has been really good for Bangladesh's star wicketkeeper-batsman Litton Das. He has done wonders in the limited-over format of the game and has helped his team improve the overall game. Nevertheless, it was a surprise to see Litton’s bidding process as he was just sold for a price tag of 50 Lakhs to Kolkata Knight Riders.

Kolkata will use him as an opening batsman and a full-time wicketkeeper. Litton Das has been part of 19 T20 internationals in 2022 and has scored 544 runs at an average of 28.63 and a strike rate of 140.20. He has shown brilliant progress in 2022 and is expected to do much better in 2023.

3) Shakib Al Hasan – 1.5 Crore – Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata Knight Riders rehired the services of Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan for a small price of 1.5 Crore. This is a good deal for the franchise as the player is known for his experience in T20 cricket and the Indian Premier League.

He has been a veteran player for Kolkata Knight Riders and the player is aware of the expectations. Shakib will play an important role in Kolkata’s all-rounder section where he will pick wickets and score runs at the lower order.

4) Rilee Rossouw – 4.6 Crore – Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals finished their last season at number 5 in the point table and the team displayed a good performance. They were unable to make it to the final four but this year, Pant and his men will have the services of the hard-hitting batter Rilee Rossouw. Delhi has bought at a small price of 4.6 Crore and the player will give them a much better return during the tournament.

5) Reece Topley – 1.9 Crore – Royal Challengers Bangalore

Reece Topley has witnessed a sudden rise in international cricket with his ability to pick wickets and swing the ball. Considering his recent performances, Topley has been hired by Bangalore for a nominal price of 1.9 Crore. The left-arm fast bowler, who took an ODI six-for vs India earlier this year, can bowl at a good pace.

His height is a big benefit as he can provide a good bounce to the ball. It will be interesting to see Bangalore using an English pacer during crucial hours of the game.
