IPL 2023: Five Players who might play their last IPL

The new season of the Indian Premier League is all set to take place in a month or two and Indian cricket will be witnessing another exciting season of the most elite cricket league in the world.

Every year the IPL makes headlines with the quality of its cricket and the thrill it provides to its viewers. The Indian Premier League has become a groundbreaking tournament where the careers of the players are made. And bookies around the world will be coming out with fancy promotions and bonuses for the tournament.

There are few new debutants in the new season of IPL and similarly, there will be some faces who won’t be part of the tournament next year. There is a possibility that some of the biggest stars of IPL might choose to retire after the 2023 season of the tournament.

5 players who will play their last IPL

Here are a few names we have predicted that might call it a day

1) MS Dhoni

One name that always pops up in the mind of every IPL fan whenever it is discussed who all are playing their last IPL season is MS Dhoni. The cricket legend from the Indian sub-continent has done wonders for Indian cricket and has been the most successful captain for team India. Similarly in IPL, MS Dhoni has been the most successful skipper overall and has helped the Chennai squad to win four trophies.

His talks of retirement are going on for a long time but it seems like this is the final year for the 41-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman. There is a possibility that he might be succeeded by the newly hired Ben Stokes.

2) Faf du Plessis

The former Proteas skipper, Faf du Plessis, has reached the age of 38 but he is still very active in the T20 cricket leagues across the globe. Faf is an integral part of the Big Bash League, Indian Premier League, Pakistan Super League, and the newly introduced SA20.

It won’t come as a surprise that the current Royal Challengers Bangalore might choose to call it off after IPL 2023 because of the work pressure. Faf du Plessis has been an important player for the Chennai Super Kings as he has helped the squad to win the two IPL trophies. In 2022, Faf joined Royal Challengers Bangalore as their new skipper after Kohli’s resignation.

3) Umesh Yadav

One of the strongest pace bowlers for team India in all the formats of the game, Umesh Yadav has reached the age of 35 and he is not the same player as he was when he started playing in IPL. Umesh has already disappeared from the limited-over format of the game.

He still plays for team India in the red-ball format but gets very few chances to prove his worth because of his inconsistent performances. The KKR player might choose to say goodbye to the tournament on a positive note after IPL 2023.

4) Dinesh Karthik

The comeback story of Dinesh Karthik to international cricket is nothing less than a fairytale story. During IPL 2022, Dinesh Karthik made headlines by playing some brilliant knocks as a finisher, and because of the same reason he made he come back to the senior team.

Karthik became an inspiration for the young cricketers in India in 2022. He took the role of a finisher and performed exceptionally well. However, the time has come for him to say goodbye to the team and make a respectful exit from the IPL.

5) Amit Mishra

Amit Mishra has been part of the Indian Premier League since the beginning days of the cricket league. He has played with Delhi Capitals, now defunct Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and now he is part of Lucknow Super Giants.

The 40-year-old was at one point a spin maestro for team India as well. However, it is expected that Amit Mishra might take a call on his retirement post-IPL 2023.
