Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023
Every year, the new season of the IPL comes with high expectations, and this year as well, cricket fans have high expectations from the players and the franchises. In this article, we have listed five expectations that IPL 2023 might fulfill this year.
1) Royal Challengers Bangalore winning their Maiden IPL Trophy
Since 2008, Royal Challengers Bangalore has been one of the most anticipated teams in the tournament and that is all because of the quality of players they had in the past. Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle, and many more have been part of the franchise but every year Bangalore fails to win the IPL trophy. Last Year they reached the knockout stage but unfortunately were knocked out in the second.
Bangalore has reached the final game thrice on different occasions but they have failed to lift the trophy. In 2023, every IPL fan will be expecting Bangalore to lift their maiden trophy and end the wait of 15 years.
2) Virat Kohli scoring the highest number
Since the beginning of the Indian Premier League, Virat Kohli has always been in the spotlight of the tournament. There is no doubt that India’s most valuable player has made it big purely with his talent and dedication to the game. With an average of 30 and a strike rate of 130, Virat has scored 6549 runs in 214 innings of IPL. He also holds the record of scoring 973 runs in IPL 2016 which no other batsman could repeat.
This year, since the player looks in great form, Kohli is expected to break his own record and go way beyond the highest number.
3) The Pace Duo of Mumbai Indians
During the IPL 2022 mega auctions, Mumbai Indian bought Jofra Archer, who was already injured and had no plans to play last year. However, this year, Archer has been cleared by England’s medical staff and after a year’s break, Jofra will be making it to international cricket and IPL 2023.
A similar situation has been faced by Jasprit Bumrah when he missed the T20 World Cup. It has been 4 months, he has not been part of any international series. Both the pace attackers will be together in the upcoming season of IPL and their deadly attack will be one entertaining moment to watch out for.
4) MS Dhoni is back to his Old Form
MS Dhoni is not a player for Indian Cricket fans, he has become an emotion. His presence on the field always attracts a certain amount of thrill in the game. He is known to change the game with his skills and decision-making power.
From the past few seasons of the IPL, Dhoni has not played a valuable inning as a batsman and a finisher. IPL 2023 is expected to be the last season for the Chennai skipper and fans would expect him to end it on a high note by coming back to his old form at the lower order.
5) New Faces for T20 World Cup 2024
Every year, the Indian Premier League highlights some new faces purely because of their performance and these new faces in turn become a valuable part of the senior team. Last year there were Arshdeep Singh and Umran Malik. Similarly, in IPL 2023, BCCI and the selection expect to get some new talented cricketers who can be prepared for the T20 World Cup 2024.
