IPL Auctions are on the way and one name which was on everyoneโs mind was the ex-Hyderabad skipper, Kane Williamson. Williamson was released by Sunrisers Hyderabad because of his below-average performance in the last season of the Indian Premier League.
Gujarat Titans took an opportunity and purchased the New Zealand skipper for a nominal price of 2 Crores which is also the base price of the player.
The biggest question experts will ask here is whether the Titans have hit a jackpot with the amount they have bought Kane Williamson.
Gujarat Titans, the winner of IPL 2022, were in the headlines even before they made their debut in the tournament. The reason for the same was their skipper Hardik Pandya, who had not been part of international cricket for almost 8 months, and the lineup of players who were mostly all-rounders.
However, the Titans surprised everyone and won the IPL trophy in their debut season.
This year the Franchise decided to let go of Rahmanullah Gurbaz, pacer Lockie Ferguson, Gurkeerat Singh, Jason Roy, Varun Aaron, and Dominic Drakes.
They have successfully bought Kane Williamson who will be placed either at number three or will be opening the inning for the team.
Kane Williamson – IPL Stats
The 32-year-old New Zealand skipper has always been the highlight of the Indian Premier League and international cricket. He started his IPL career with Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2015 and the relationship went on for seven years. After Hyderabadโs major debacle under the leadership of David Warner, he was given the responsibility of the team in IPL 2022.
However, Kane completely failed to do any good to the team because Hyderabad finished in the 8th position with only four wins.
Overall, Kane Williamson stands out with his credentials in IPL. Kane came under the spotlight in 2018 when he scored 518 runs in 17 games of IPL at an average of 52.50 and a strike rate of 142.44.
In his IPL career, Kane Williamson has played 76 matches and has scored 2101 runs at an average of 36.22 and a strike rate of 126.03.
Gujarat Titans needed a strong name in the opening lineup. In 2022, Wriddhiman Saha acted as the opening batter with Sai Sudarshan at number three and Shubman Gill at number two. With the presence of Kane Williamson, Gujarat Titans can put him in the top 3 which in turn will reduce the pressure on the middle order.
Considering the quality that Kane Williamson brings to the team with his experience, he is definitely the best deal a franchise can ever get.
