Multan Sultan vs Lahore Qalandars PSL 2021, 28th match
Multan Sultans will be looking to keep their playoff hopes alive when they take on Lahore Qalandars in the 28th PSL match at Abu Dhabi.
Multan Sultans seemed to have found nice momentum at the back end of the innings and will be looking to maintain their winning run in the competition. Captain Mohammad Rizwan will be hoping that the side can deliver a pitch-perfect performance in this contest.
On the other hand, Lahore Qalandars will have to sort out their issues ahead of this game. The middle-order once again collapsed against Quetta Gladiators to the side lost their second straight game on the trot. Captain Sohail Akhtar might go for some changes for this game.
The franchise will have to win this game to qualify for the knockout stages of the tournament. Despite decent results in this UAE leg of PSL, Multan are still lying in the bottom half of the league table.
In the batting department, the side will be the in-form duo of Mohammad Rizwan and Sohail Maqsood to deliver the bulk of the runs. Mohammad Rizwan is currently leading the batting charts in the competition and will be looking to continue his impressive run with the bat in this fixture.
Besides Rizwan, Sohaib Maqsood has shown consistency with the bat in this year’s PSL. He has accumulated 227 runs in 7 innings at an average of 45.40 with two half-centuries so far this season.
Rilee Rossouw, Khushdil Shah, and Sohail Tanvir will be given the task of producing quick runs at the back end of the innings
In the bowling department, the onus will be on the likes of Imran Khan, Shahnawaz Dhani, and Imran Tahir to deliver crucial wickets in this contest.
For Qalandars, the batting has been their Achilles heel in their previous two matches played in the competition. The openers have done a reasonable job for Qalandars this season but the lack of runs from the likes of Mohammad Hafeez, Ben Dunk, and Zeeshan Ashraf will be a cause of concern going into their game against Multan Sultans.
In the batting department, the side will be depending on the opening duo of Sohail Akhtar and Fakhar Zaman to get the side off to a flying start. In the previous match, the openers perished in quick succession in the Powerplay overs.
Besides the opening pair, the likes of Mohammad Hafeez and Ben Dunk will have to produce runs for Qalandars to post a competitive total on the board.
Singapore batsman Tim David has been a surprise package with the bat for Qalandars in this second phase of PSL. He has managed to produce decent scores in his four appearances for the franchise this season.
In the bowling department, the side will be relying on in-form pacer James Faulkner to provide wickets with the new ball. The left-arm medium-pacer was once again the pick of the bowlers for Lahore in their previous game against Quetta.
Besides Faulkner, left-arm quick Shaheen Shah Afridi and leg-spinner Rashid Khan have been bankable performers for the side this season.
With dew being a huge factor in the day-night matches, the wicket prepared at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi will see the batsmen dominate the proceedings. The bowlers will need to adjust to the conditions and provide crucial breakthroughs on this surface.
Players in form
After having a poor outing with the ball in the previous game, pacer Haris Rauf will be keen to make a strong comeback in this fixture. He is one of those bowlers who can bowl well with the new and old ball. The team management will be hoping that Rauf can deliver the goods against Multan Sultans.
Given their head-to-head record in the Pakistan Super League, Qalandars and Sultans have managed to win four games apiece.
In their previous meeting between the teams, Multan Sultans registered a comfortable win over Lahore Qalandars.
Based on the current form, Multan Sultans will be favorites to win their game against Lahore Qalandars. With Mohammad Rizwan showing magical form with the bat and bowling unit put in excellent performances in the previous two matches, Multan will be determined to continue their winning momentum going in the competition.
On the other hand, Lahore Qalandars will be hoping that senior players in the team can make notable contributions in this must-win game.
Expect Multan Sultans to register a hard-fought win over Lahore Qalandars.
