N Jagadeesan, the opening batsman for Tamil Nadu, on Monday set a number of records when he became the first cricketer in history to score five consecutive List A centuries.
While playing in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022, Jagadeesan kept on his incredible play against Arunachal Pradesh, first smashing a century off just 77 balls before breaking the previous record for the highest individual score in List A history.
After registering the second-fastest double-century in the history of the format (off 114 deliveries), the fastest by an Indian cricketer, he went on to smash a massive 277 off 141 deliveries during an incredible blitz. His record-breaking innings consisted of 25 boundaries and 15 sixes.
He was out in the 42nd over, just missing out on becoming the first player in one-day cricket history to hit a triple century. The 26-year-old, though, had already broken the previous benchmark for the highest score in List A history.
N Jagadeesan broke Alistair Brown's record
Alistair Brown of England, who had struck 268 for Surrey against Glamorgan in 2002 to set the then record for the highest individual score in List A cricket, had held the mark for 22 years until Tamil Nadu opener N Jagadeesan shattered it on Monday.
Additionally, Rohit Sharma's ODI record of 268, the highest individual total by an Indian in the format, was surpassed by the right-handed batter from Tamil Nadu.
With fellow opener Sai Sudharsan, Jagadeesan also contributed to a record-breaking partnership totaling 416 runs, the most ever for the first wicket in List A cricket. Sudharsan on the other hand scored 154 off 102 which included 19 boundaries and two maximum.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu became the first team in List A history to score 500 or more in an innings. They posted a mammoth 506/2 in 50 overs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, in Bengaluru.
