The thirteenth season of the Big Bash League has kicked off in some style, as in the opening fixture, we witnessed the complete annihilation of the Melbourne Stars against the hosts, the Brisbane Heat, as they lost the match by 103 runs.
Now, in Match 4 of the season, the Melbourne Renegades, winners of the eighth season of the BBL, will be hosting the five-time champions and the defending champions, the Perth Scorchers.
One of the two Melbourne-based franchises in the league, the Melbourne Renegades, has played only one BBL final that they have won, whereas the Perth Scorchers have been a part of a record eight finals, out of which they have won five times.
This Big Bash League fixture will be played at the Simonds Stadium, Geelong, on Sunday, December 10, 2023, at 1:45 p.m. IST.
Marsh is the main batter of Scorchers, having a lot of international experience.
The betting tip is...
Mitchell Marsh to score 29.5+ runs
The Renegades have an excellent team this time around, filled with experienced Australian cricketers and some young overseas talent.
Nic Maddinson will be leading the franchise in this edition of the Big Bash League. Aaron Finch and Joe Clarke are likely to open the batting, with Maddinson and Marsh to bat at three and four.
Only one of Jake Fraser-McGurk or Mackenzie Harvey will get to play, and we predict it to be the former. Jonathan Wells, Will Sutherland, and Tom Rogers are all expected to get a game.
The three main bowlers will be Adam Zampa, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, and Kane Richardson.
Predicted Lineup: Aaron Finch, Joe Clarke (wk), Nic Maddinson (c), Shaun Marsh, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Jonathan Wells, Will Sutherland, Tom Rogers, Kane Richardson, Adam Zampa, and Mujeeb ur Rahman
Perth Scorchers have an excellent scouting team that identifies young talents from the little parts of Australia and grooms them for the bigger stage, which is one of the reasons they are the most successful team in the BBL.
Their roster, just like every year, has some sensational talent in it, and they are looking well set for their third consecutive title.
Ashton Turner will be leading the team and will have support from experienced cricketers such as Mitchell Marsh, Andrew Tye, Jason Behrendorff, and Zak Crawley.
Lance Morris, who is known as the next wild thing in Australian cricket, is also a part of the Perth Scorchers.
Predicted Lineup: Laurie Evans, Mitchell Marsh, Zak Crawley, Stephen Eskinazi, Ashton Turner (c), Josh Inglis (wk), Ashton Agar, Hamish McKenzie, Jason Behrendorff, Lance Morris, and Andrew Tye
The head-to-head record between the Melbourne Renegades and Perth Scorchers is completely skewed in the favour of the Scorchers.
Out of the 18 matches played, Scorchers have won 15 whereas Renegades have won only 3. The matches at Simonds Stadium are usually high-scoring, as a lot of runs are scored on that flat pitch.
These two teams played against each other at the same stadium back in 2019, when the Scorchers chased 175 runs with ease.
The most interesting battle to look out for will be Aaron Finch against the left-arm pacer, Jason Behrendorff, when the ball is swinging. We anticipate the Perth Scorchers to come out on top.
