The 13th season of one of the most prominent T20 cricket leagues, Big Bash League, has begun and in the 2nd fixture, Sydney Sixers will be hosting Melbourne Renegades on Friday at Sydney Cricket Ground.
After an unprecedented exit in the playoffs last year, Sydney Sixers will be looking forward this season and will try their level best to dominate the tournament from the beginning.
Melbourne Renegades witnessed a major revival in their quality of cricket in the previous edition. They will be trying to take things ahead from where they left off in the previous edition. The top bookmakers in India have BBL odds with them.
In the last 5 T20s at SCG, the average score of the team batting first has been 164.
The betting tip is...
The team batting first to score more than 160.5 runs.
Sydney Sixers will be under the leadership of Moises Henriques with Josh Philippe as their full-time wicketkeeper. In the batting unit, they have the power of Daniel Hughes, Steve Smith, Jack Edwards, and Kurtis Patterson.
Steve Smith will be expected to be part of the top order but the team management will be aware at the same time that Smith might be called off for international duties against Pakistan, hence they need to be prepared for a similar replacement.
The good news for the Sixers is that Mitchell Starc will be available to play from the beginning of the league. He has recently signed the contract and will be eyeing to lead the bowling unit. With Starc, the Sixers will have Sean Abbott, Steve O’Keefe, and Hayden Kerr. In the spin section, the Sixers will be dependent on Ben Dwarshuis and Tom Curran.
Skipper Moises Henriques will have the availability of all the players to start the fixture.
Predicted Lineup: Moises Henriques (c), Sean Abbott, Jackson Bird, Hayden Kerr, Todd Murphy, Steve O’Keefe, Kurtis Patterson, Josh Philippe, Tom Curran, Mitchell Starc, Steve Smith
The Renegades will be led by Nic Maddinson and their full-time wicketkeeper will be none other than Quinton de Kock. However, de Kock is expected to join the team after finishing the T20 series against India and hence in his absence, Joe Clark will take on the gloves.
Aaron Finch, Shaun Marsh, and Harry Dixon will be responsible for providing the team with a batting advantage. The Victorian all-rounder Fergus O'Neill has been signed by the team management and will be available from the beginning of the tournament.
In the bowling unit, Kane Richardson and Peter Sidle will be leading the pace attack. Renegades are carrying multiple options in spin attack with Nathan Lyon, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, and Adam Zampa in the team. Zampa’s World Cup performance and his experience in the league make him a crucial player for the team.
Except for Quinton de Kock, Renegades will have all the players to start the game.
Predicted Lineup: Nic Maddinson (c), Aaron Finch, MacKenzie Harvey, Shaun Marsh, Kane Richardson, Peter Siddle, Adam Zampa, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Joe Clarke, Harry Dixon, Fergus O'Neill
In the least 17 meetings between both teams, Sydney Sixers have come out on top with 12 wins. This year, both teams carry a significant amount of quality players but the Renegades have very less options for a quality pace attack.
They might struggle to pick wickets with the new ball in the starting overs. Sydney Sixers will get the benefit of the same and we predict Sixers will win the match.
