The fourth edition of the Lanka Premier League is upon us and is just days away from its beginning. The defending champions and the runner-ups will be up against each other in the opening match of the tournament on July 30, 2023. It has almost become a trend nowadays for all the cricket-playing nations, as every country is starting its own T20 franchise league.
These leagues are of huge importance, as they allow the young and local talent of a nation to grow and also promote the sport in that country. The first three editions of the Lanka Premier League were huge successes, and the fourth one is expected to be a blockbuster as well.
In Match 2 of the league, the Galle Titans and Dambulla Aura will be up against each other in a fierce face-off on Monday. It will also be the first double-header match day of the tournament. It is going to be difficult in the beginning for a few Sri Lankan players, as they will play a T20 tournament directly after the conclusion of the test series against Pakistan.
The squads of both teams are looking solid, and it is going to be a great battle on Monday afternoon, we presume. The top bookmakers in India have LPL 2023 odds with them.
Since only four overseas players are allowed in the playing 11, teams will have to choose their overseas contingent very carefully. The Galle Titans will be captained by the Sri Lankan national captain and one of the best white-ball all-rounders, Dasun Shanaka. The foreign players in the squad are Chad Bowes, Shakib Al Hasan, Ben Cutting, Mohammad Mithun, Tim Seifert, and Tabraiz Shamsi.
We think Chad Bowes and Mohammad Mithun will miss out on the starting 11 in the first match.
Predicted Lineup: Minod Bhanuka, Tim Seifert (wk), Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Shakib Al Hasan, Ben Cutting, Dasun Shanaka (c), Ashan Priyanjan, Lahiru Kumara, Kasun Rajitha, Tabrazi Shamsi, and Vishwa Fernando
The Dambulla team will be led by the explosive opener and one of the main players of the Sri Lankan team, Kusal Mendis. He has a lot of experience and will be the right guy to lead this team. The six players in the overseas contingent of Dambulla Aura are Alex Ross, Hayden Kerr, Noor Ahmad, Shahnawaz Dahani, Ben McDermott, and Taskin Ahmed.
Alex Ross and Hayden Kerr are predicted to miss out on the starting 11 in the initial match of the tournament.
Predicted Lineup: Avishka Fernando, Kusal Mendis (c, wk), Ben McDermott, Dhananjaya de Silva, Kusal Perera, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Praveen Jayawickrama, Noor Ahmad, Taskin Ahmed, Shahnawaz Dahani, and Pramod Madushan
Since it is the first match of the tournament for both Galle and Dambulla, a win will boost their confidence and build momentum for the rest of the tournament, and hence both teams will be raring to get the two points in this match. We predict the Galle Titans to be the winners, seeing as the balance of their side is better than that of their opponents. Since the Galle Titans are the home team in this match, the crowd will also play a major role.
