The London-based franchise, Oval Invincibles, will be hosting the Cardiff-based franchise, Welsh Fire, in the ninth match of the Hundred Men’s Competition 2023. The Hundred this year has been extremely engaging and fascinating for the fans.
The first two editions were huge successes for this new 100-ball format, and by the early looks of things, the third edition is also going to be spectacular. Oval Invincibles and Welsh Fire will play their match on Sunday. The Kennington Oval Stadium in London will host this match on Sunday evening. The top bookmakers have odds with them for this tie.
This will be the Oval Invincibles’ second match of the season, whereas it will be the third match for the Welsh Fire. Both teams have started the season with a win and two crucial points in the bag. The Oval Invincibles beat London Spirit in a low-scoring thriller in their tournament opener, whereas Welsh Fire won a rain-shortened game against Manchester Originals dominantly. This match will be a battle between the in-form Luke Wells of Welsh Fire and Sunil Narine of Oval Invincibles.
The London-based franchise played a pretty good batting lineup in their previous match that consisted of some clean hitters. Jason Roy and Will Jacks will be expected to contribute more in this match by the team management after a failure in the first one. Adam Zampa is likely to join the franchise before this match and find a place in the starting 11 directly.
Only two overseas players were in the team for the previous match against London Spirit, and hence Adam Zampa might replace one of the local pacers.
Predicted Lineup: Jason Roy, Will Jacks, Jordan Cox, Heinrich Klaasen, Sam Billings (c, wk), Sam Curran, Tom Curran, Sunil Narine, Gus Atkinson, Zak Chappell/Nathan Sowter, and Adam Zampa
Welsh Fire won a dominant game against Manchester Originals in their inaugural match this year. Luke Wells put on an excellent show with the bat, whereas Shaheen Shah Afridi displayed the magic of his swing bowling early on in the innings. Glenn Phillips played a cameo and took a phenomenal catch.
The team is expected to be the same except that Jonny Bairstow, if available, will straight away come into the playing 11 in place of Joe Clarke.
Predicted Lineup: Luke Wells, Jonny Bairstow/Joe Clarke (wk), Tom Abell (c), Steven Eskinazi, Glenn Phillips, David Willey, David Payne, Roelof van der Merwe, Ben Green, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Haris Rauf
The Oval Invincibles are the team predicted to come out on top in this upcoming match. Their first match was a dominant show against London Spirit, as they won the London Derby. Welsh Fire faltered at a few stages during their initial game against Manchester Originals and hence we predict their opponents to clinch the match away from them. The Oval Invincibles franchise will be playing at their home venue and will have the upper hand.
