The IPL has been rocked by a few COVID infections and the immediate future of the tournament looks a bit uncertain. There is a very real possibility of the tournament being curtailed or even being called off if the situation worsens. The latest information available suggests that matches are going to go on and that there are contingencies in place for such events. Rajasthan Royals vs Chennai Super Kings IPL 2021 is going to be played under a tense atmosphere since three people from the Chennai contingent tested positive although none of them were players.
The match is scheduled to be played in Delhi, a very high-scoring venue and one where almost every single match has been exciting. Hopefully, the tournament will be able to witness more such encounters.
Rajasthan Royals vs Chennai Super Kings IPL 2021
Teams’ strengths & weaknesses
Rajasthan Royals have a very good batting lineup especially now that its overseas players are in form. This is a team that can get scores of over 200 very consistently if it gets its act together. The bowling attack for the Rajasthan Royals is also doing quite well. The weakness is a lack of depth in the batting lineup as well as the lack of a good spinner in the eleven.
Chennai Super Kings have been one of the most consistent batting lineups in the entire tournament. That has to be a clear strength of the team. There are so many batsmen in the team that can win matches that it makes the team dangerous every time it takes the field. The weakness is the bowling attack that continues to be very expensive. Chennai may be scoring a lot of runs but it is giving away a lot as well and that can be a bib problem moving ahead in the tournament.
Players in form
Jos Buttler scored a century in the previous match and is clearly in good form. There is hardly a batsman better than Buttler in the T20 format when he is in good form. If he can continue to bat well for Rajasthan then the team is going to be very difficult to beat.
Ambati Rayadu is striking the ball beautifully and is in great form. He smashed seven sixes in the previous match and made 72 runs from just 27 deliveries. That was an inning that showed Rayadu at his best. While he may not be able to play another such inning, there is no doubt he will carry the confidence of that knock for a few matches to come.
The conditions in Delhi have been loaded in favor of the batsmen so far. There is nothing in the pitch for the bowlers and the ground is quite small as well. This means that a lot of sixes are hit and high-scoring matches are likely to be played.
- There have been 25 matches played between the Chennai Super Kings and the Rajasthan Royals with 15 of them being won by Chennai and 10 by Rajasthan.
- Rajasthan has won two of the most recent three matches played against Chennai
- Out of the current crop of players, no one has scored more runs in this contest than Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni
- Buttler has a highest score of 95 not out against Chennai and really enjoys playing this lineup
Chennai is a stronger batting team than almost any other team in this edition of the tournament. They have been batting aggressively and seem to be able to get to a big total in every match. Rajasthan needs Buttler to fire otherwise it could be found struggling. Chennai has the tools needed to win.
Winner: Chennai Super Kings
