India and Ireland don't have a long-standing rivalry in international cricket compared to other cricketing nations. However, they have played a few notable matches against each other, and there have been some memorable encounters.
One of the most significant moments in their cricketing history came during the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup. Ireland, then an associate nation, caused a massive upset by defeating India in the group stage. The top bookmakers in India have odds for this particular series as well.
Team India will be touring Ireland in the month of August once they finish their tour to West Indies. The biggest news for team India is the comeback of Jasprit Bumrah and it was a surprise that he will be the leading man during the series. BCCI and the selection committee have given chances to some new faces as well.
Kolkata Knight Rider’s hero in IPL, Rinku Singh, will be making his debut in a blue jersey against Ireland in the T20 format. Tilak Varma will also get a chance to showcase his talent during the series and Prasidh Krishna will also make his comeback into the team and will be eying to confirm his name for the upcoming ODI World Cup.
In this article, we have done a detailed SWOT analysis of team India which will be travelling to Ireland for a three-match T20 series.
Strength
Team India is travelling to Ireland relatively with a lot of young faces. Normally, team India’s strength is their batting but this time the pin has been shifted towards the bowling lineup. Arshdeep Singh is already known for his accurate bowling and his antics in the T20 format. With him, Prasidh Krishna is expected to do magic during the middle overs. However, the biggest strength lies in the pace of Jasprit Bumrah and his death bowling. It will be interesting to see India’s ferocious bowler with his unorthodox action and painful yorkers.
Weakness
The biggest weakness of Team India this time is in their batting lineup. Having Ruturaj Gaikwad is a safer option but except him, nobody is a guaranteed run-scorer. Yashaswi Jaiswal and Tilak Varma are new faces and can’t be bombarded with the pressure of scoring runs in crucial times.
Sanju Samson has always been successful in disappointing the team with his low score in international cricket. Rinku Singh will act as the finisher at the lower end but he carries no experience to play on international pitches.
Opportunity
Jasprit Bumrah is a relatively inexperienced captain, having only led India in one Test match so far. However, he has shown some promising signs in his brief tenure as skipper. That is where Team India’s opportunity lies. One of Bumrah's strengths as a captain is his ability to think on his feet. He is not afraid to make bold decisions, and he is always looking for ways to outsmart the opposition.
Bumrah is known to build relationships with his players. He is a very approachable captain, and he is always willing to listen to his players' suggestions. This has helped to create a positive and united atmosphere in the Indian team.
Threat
BCCI and the selection have made the biggest blunder as they have completely ignored the experienced batters from team India. Except for Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sanju Samson, there is no other batter who has experience playing at international pitches in a high pressured situation.
There is a possibility that BCCI has taken Ireland's squad for granted but the Irish are known to stun the world with the biggest upsets. Team India has many loopholes when it comes to the batting lineup and they are lacking major expertise.
