The ODI World Cup is scheduled to kick start in October 2023 and the schedule for the same has been announced.
The respective boards have also announced the teams that are taking part in the tournament. In the past, India has co-hosted the tournament with other sub-continental nations, such as in 1987, 1996, and 2011.
However, this is the first time India will be hosting the tournament on its own, and considering the number of cricket lovers in India, we expect an absolute thriller of a tournament.
The 2023 ODI World Cup is a very important tournament for Team India primarily because of two reasons. Top bookmakers have World Cup odds with them.
Firstly, It is a chance for them to win their third ODI World Cup title and will be significant. event for the country. Secondly, by winning the World Cup, team India can end their drought of ICC trophies which has been going on for the past decade.
BCCI and the selection committee have announced a 15-member squad for the tournament and have selected the best pool of players from the list. In this article, we have done a brief SWOT analysis of Team India and its players for the ODI World Cup.
Strengths
Team India has long been recognized as a cricketing powerhouse, and a significant reason for their dominance in the sport has been their formidable batting lineup.
The Indian cricket team's batting strength is not just a matter of statistics; it embodies a rich tradition of world-class batsmen who have consistently delivered stellar performances on the international stage.
With Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli in positive form, it is expected that the team will get a positive start. With Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya in the middle order, Team India can rest assured that the scoreline will stay positive even under pressure.
Another strength of Team India is their balanced bowling lineup. With Jasprit Bumrah back in the squad, the pace attack looks strong as Mohammed Shami and Mohammad Siraj are also part of it.
Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel also continue to bamboozle batsmen with their guile, control, and variations.
Weakness
Even before announcing the team for the tournament, it was not a hidden fact that team India was imbalanced in the number 4 and number 5 spots.
Shreyas Iyer will be making his appearance at number 4 but since his return from the injury he has not shown much strength at the spot. There is still a major confusion regarding the spot of KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan.
Ishan has shown good form in the Asia Cup but on the other hand, KL Rahul is coming to action after a major injury and was away from international cricket for almost 4-5 months.
Both Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul can’t be trusted as of now to handle the pressure of scoring runs in a pressured situation.
Opportunity
Skipper Rohit Sharma and the selection committee have shown their trust in Ishan Kishan. His presence in the middle order is an opportunity for Team India and can do wonders in difficult situations. Kishan is an opening batter but he has also shown maturity in his game while playing at number 5.
Threat
KL Rahul is back in action after being absent from international cricket since IPL. The player is important for Team India but it should be noted that he was completely out of form before getting injured.
Also, because of the injury, KL Rahul has not played much ODI cricket and it will be difficult for him to adapt to the situations. His poor performance can cause a major threat to team India during the ODI World Cup.
