World Test Championship: The first Test match between Pakistan and England in Rawalpindi played out in a way that had never been seen before, with opportunities for all three results on the last day of play.
It was one of the most thrilling Test matches one would have witnessed in years now. It was a battle between Pakistan's poise and England's strategy and tactics. And in the end, England toppled the home side.
On what appeared to be a dead pitch at Rawalpindi, England batters started the opening day by taking the attack to the opposition from word go.
Before the first day's play was over, the visitors scored a record-breaking 506/4 runs as hosts Pakistan failed to contain the English batters. After scoring a staggering 657 runs, Pakistani bowlers dismissed England, bringing an end to their innings on Day 2.
Pakistan batters started positively as well and it looked impossible to take a wicket on this pitch. England bowlers had an uphill task ahead of them on Day 3.
In order to keep the score even, Babar Azam kept the ship afloat and scored a superb century. The Pakistani batsmen kept their team in the match and they finished the day with 499/7.
England bowled out Pakistan on Day 4 with a lead of 78 runs. Then, England made a significant move by ending their second innings early with a score of 264/7 and giving Pakistan a 343-run target.
The hosts had a strong batting performance to open the fifth day, but Pakistan lost four wickets in the first eight overs. Pakistan's tail tried to keep them in the game but England finally managed to score a win.
With England securing the win, they have garnered points in the world test championship points table.
